Milton Public School
“We decided to hold a School Fun Run because we looked at the colour run and it looked like it was something that we could use to raise funds, but more than that, it was something that would provide a carnival activity here at school… and particularly in the year that we had beforehand with the bushfires.
We were really looking forward to providing an opportunity for our kids, and it did just that. It was very well received and supported by our community.
Our kids had a ball… and bonus… we raised a lot of money. The dollars came in and as it started going up through $10k, $20k, $30k, $50k, 80k when it reached a hundred thousand dollars we thought this is absolutely amazing!
So, our last School Fun Run was two years ago, and we decided that all the money we raised would go straight to the kids. Something they could enjoy for many many years. We decided on play equipment and we got ourselves an amazing piece of kit.
We can't wait for tomorrow! PUMPED! We’re pumped and ready to go. I did offer to get slimed, I don't know if that's happening?!
We have a lot of students and all of them together is hard to do, but it's great to do, and these are the days where you can do it. Between age groups, boys and girls, any culture… it doesn't matter and it's 100% healthy. It's outside, it's social and it flows into a whole day of just enjoyment, social interaction, social build up and inclusion. I mean, what's healthier than that?
Yes, I think as a P&C representative that aspect of the real whole school community getting together, teachers just getting in there, everyone was dirty, everyone was smiling, we have a student in a wheelchair she was covered in colour having a great time. We had a bunch of parents in the school today and everyone's smiling and laughing, and you know taking videos and sharing the videos with their friends of their kids. It's just a wonderful community event!
It's amazing to have the School Fun Run raise money that we can spend on legacy items… big things…. and really see that difference to our kids year on year on year.
We traditionally run a school fete every year in September. Part of that fete is the actual fate day and part of it is a raffle. In a typical year, if that all went well, we would probably make at the moment about a third of what the current fun run is making. So, for us it's a no-brainer to have a School Fun Run.
For our Parent and Citizen Community these events are what gets us out of bed and what motivates us the rest of the year to do the hard work to support the school.
I just really like to say on behalf of the Milton Public School P&C, our wider community of parents and friends, thank you to every single one who donated so generously to our School Fun Run. Every cent of your donation will make a big difference to our kids.
Absolutely I would recommend School Fun Run to other schools, sign up now… right now!”
