“A day like this brings just happiness to the school. Bottom line is it's an opportunity to celebrate as part of a community. It's been a really tough year for many schools, our school included, but we've got an opportunity here to celebrate with kids and have fun which is what it's all about. Plus, there is an added bonus of raising money.
I've been a Chaplain for 25 years, and this is the most phenomenal and the most amazing fundraiser that I’ve ever done, and it's not just from a fundraising perspective, but definitely from a community building perspective. To see the fun, to see the aspect of ‘we're in this together’, to see the sense of ‘we want to make that positive difference’, it's been amazing.
If we make $70,000 with the day today, certainly that would be the most fundraising that we've ever done in one event and it's probably more than 10 times our previous chaplaincy fundraising event which is astounding.
School camps, school discos, school excursions… so many opportunities have been cancelled this year for the kids, so to be able to run a colour run that's an inclusive activity at the end of the year, it's just so uplifting for everyone.
The comments that have come that this is the best day of the year and possibly the best day of someone's life, well it might even sound a little bit cliche, but for some, it just might be. That's the dynamic of running an event like this. That it could actually be the number one thing that they've ever experienced, that a young person's ever experienced, and they get to do it with crazy adults running around and just being kids again.
They get to do it in a safe environment, they get to be able to do it to raise funds, but most of all they get to do it with their friends and it's an awesome experience that they’ll remember for the rest of their life.
I definitely recommend the School Fun Run, I've had probably the best day I’ve had all year. It's been a great event, I know the kids have enjoyed it, the staff have enjoyed it, it's a great opportunity to bring our community together.”
